Wedding season is almost upon us! I checked in with Leesa Evans, the costume designer from the 5-Year Engagement, starring Emily Blunt and Jason Segel as a perpetually engaged couple about how to dress for a wedding when you're a guest. Here's what she advises to wear to the 5 most popular types of weddings:
Beach Weddings
I love a lot of the J. Crew dresses - they feel effortless and great for a beach wedding. I think it is about understated elegance at a beach wedding.
Black Tie Weddings
I love Monique Lhuillier dresses. There is so much beading and lace and veiling that make those dresses have the perfect amount of drama for a black a tie wedding.
Cocktail Party Weddings
I think for a cocktail party sometimes its fun to look to designers who aren't traditionally designing for weddings - or people who incorporate wedding wear into their collections. Like Lanvin I love the separate pieces ... They have a lot of classic whimsy.
Daytime Weddings
I think for a daytime wedding it's fun to be fresh and lighthearted. I love Oscar de la Renta and Valentino dresses for this.
Outdoor Weddings
For any type of wedding that is set in a natural environment it's really great to be a little bit unconventional. I really like the Jenny Packham dresses because they have a little bit of the English countryside feel.
